Meet the Members of SLAB

  • Todd Tilch

    Lead Guitar / Lead Vocals

Todd began playing trumpet at age 12, and then drums at 15. He got his first guitar at 18, but insisted on playing drums. His first musical influences include Elton John, Billy Joel, ELO, Molly Hatchet, and AC/DC. Later on he became influenced by the Sex Pistols, The Ramones, and NOFX. In 1995 he formed SLAB in Colby, WI and began gigging in early ‘96.

Todd is an animal Lover (mainly dogs). If he had to do it over, he probably would have chosen to be a stand up comedian, politician, or homicide detective, but maybe next time. For now, come celebrate 28 years of SLAB with him and the band!

  • Cindy Kearns

    Lead Vocals

Cindy was always told by her mom that she was singing even before she could speak, and she agrees! Music has always been a focus in her life as she started out her career in high school musicals, along with choir and show choir. Over the years, she has sang for many weddings and National Anthem performances. SLAB is the 4th band that Cindy has been a part of, joining them in 2011. This song holds special significance to her, along with many others coming to see SLAB.

Being a member of SLAB is more than just another cover band, it’s a way of life! Music is part of the soul and Cindy feels beyond blessed to be able to sing at every show and touch others with the power of live music! She would like to thank each and every person who has ever come out to a show and sang along!

  • Ryan Whitcraft

    Drums/Voacals

Ryan’s mother bought his first CD when he was around 10-11 years old. It was International Super Hits from Green Day. He loved every song on that disk and he realized that his ears always tuned into the drums. He wanted to learn how to play the drums just like the guy on that CD. Growing up in a small town in Northern Indiana and attending Northwoods Middle School , Ryan entered percussion at age 12. It was always his goal to learn how to play the drum kit. In order to get a shot at playing the kit, he needed to enter Jazz Band. However, he was denied his dream due to his sub-par ability to read Xylophone music.

His parents moved their family to Wausau, WI when he was 14. He stuck with percussion thinking a new location might open a door to learning the kit. Yet again, another disappointment occurred as he only played bass drum for the rest of that year. He stopped taking band and followed his own path in music. Ryan’s parents bought his first kit for his 15th birthday, a Tama 5 piece. He never learned how to read sheet music, nor did he bother to learn how to read drum tabs. He learned to play by ear. If Ryan hears a song enough times, he will be able to figure out how to play it on the kit.

Years go by and he was in and out of cover bands that never really got off the ground. One day, he goes into a local music store and just plays some basic Green Day on an electronic kit. Someone approached him at the end of his drumming and asked his name. That someone turned out to be Todd from SLAB, and that was all she wrote!

  • Lance Dickinson

    Keys/Vocals

Lance started his musical journey right out of high school shortly after giving up drums, which he played since the age of 6. He switched to keyboard being completely self- taught but borrowing styles from pop and rock artists from the 70s and 80s! His first band to play out was named “Civilian,” a rock cover group from Waukesha in 1989. Then in 1991 joining an all-original progressive Christian band named “Dweller” which gained serious interest from Warner Brothers Records. Lance was their lead singer and keyboardist.

Most recently Lance has been in the Appleton based band “Almost Normal” from April of 2021 through December of 2021. He was looking to possibly join a band a little closer to home and with the opening of a position for a keyboardist in SLAB, it seems fate stepped in for Lance and SLAB, and for Lance to find a new home in a band in Wausau!

  • Craig Burns

    Bass

Craig was born in Milwaukee - grew up in Ozaukee County (1/2 hour North of Milwaukee), and moved to Langlade County when he was 17. The only instrument that he ever played was bass, which he started playing at 15. He wanted to play bass because he’s always been drawn to the basslines in songs because he just loved the sound of a good sounding bass line with a killer tone. When he first started playing, he was fortunate to hook up with a really talented guitarist that he wrote songs with and did a lot of improv jamming. This helped to create his style of bass playing as well as being influenced by bands like Iron Maiden (the band that got him to like bass guitar), RUSH, Black Sabbath, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, ect... He’s played all over the Northwoods and the Green Bay / Fox Valley area since the early 90's. He is looking forward to his next chapter in music playing bass for SLAB and is excited to play in new areas and venues. He’s been with his wife since 1995, and they have two amazing teenage daughters that mean the world to him.
